They were guardians of an ancient ritual of healing and protection. In the villages of southern Romania, groups of C\u0103lu\u0219ari would appear during the Pentecost season, and their dance was believed to drive away evil, illness, and imbalance from the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their rapid movements, almost impossible leaps, ritual shouts, and powerful rhythm created something more than a performance.
